I got started into Bodybuilding because my dad (Roger Young) is an old school body builder. Even though his last show was when he was my age (25), I grew up always watching him workout in the basement of our home. My dad hung pictures of his stage photos, and I remember always being intrigued by them and thought it was really neat my dad was (and still is) a muscle head!
Growing up I was always active, from playing sports, to cheer-leading, to hiking every Sunday with my family. What really sparked my interest to do a bodybuilding show was in December of 2012, I kept seeing stage pictures of my gym friends on Facebook. I thought to myself 'I want a body like that, I want to wear those heels and sparkly bikini'.
I started prepping for my first show at 12 weeks out, and on April 13, 2013 I placed 1st. A week later I competed again and placed 2nd. By that time I knew I was hooked, and enjoyed the daily grind of preparing for a bodybuilding show. From then on, I have continued in this sport and have competed in the following shows:
June 15, 2013: Placed 2nd in natural, novice and open.
July 27, 2013: Placed 16th at USA's in Las Vegas.
February 28, 2014: Placed 4th at the Arnold Amateur.
February 28, 204: Placed 1st in the Rock Star Bikini Contest.
April 12, 2014: Placed 1st in Denver, Colorado.
August 30, 2014: Placed 7th at North Americans.
I love to work out and live a healthy lifestyle because I love the endorphin's that come with it! 'I regret that workout, -said NO ONE ever!" When I am exercising, I feel exhilarated and happy, and there's no better feeling than that. I also love to work out because I feel like it helps prevent me from getting sick/injured.
I love Bodybuilding because stepping on that stage and show casing my months of hard work is uplifting!! Yes, preparing for a competition is extremely hard and takes dedication, but I enjoy the daily grind and working towards something. For every show I prepare for, my goal is always to beat the package I brought to the stage the previous show. And to me that is winning, that is proving I can do hard things, that is showing I can set a goal and smash it!
