I guess I've always been into an active lifestyle. I played sports as a kid, was in dance up until high school when I joined the cheerleading squad. I always carried my weight really well, and didn't notice I put on the lbs when my parents got divorced and I used food as a sourc of comfort.
In college I was encouraged by my roommate to come to the gym and workout with her. She was on the crew team and helped me start running. I began doing 5ks in 2007 and moved to 10ks in 2010. In the summer of 2012 I competed in my frist triathlon. I didn't place, but at least I finished! Since then i've done various other 5ks, 10ks, adventure course races (Warrior dash, mudfactor, Mud Games, etc), and this July I'm planning on doing the Tough Mudder and completing a half ironman triathlon.
On top of my job as a family theraist for children, teens, couples and families, I work part time as a group fitness instructor. Between 5 and 6am kettlebell, TRX, and kickbox classes, and my client appointments in the afternoon/evening. I can usually be found at a local LA Fitness swimming laps or running and biking outside. On the off season I got into Crossfit and can't wait until my tri is over and I can get back to lifting.
Well, if your on this site and can view my profile, you probably already know what I'm going to say...
Getting in the gym and getting a great workout completed gives me energy to get through my day. I work with kids that have tons of energy and are not only physically, but mentally and emotionally draining at times. The gym is my stress relief and the place where I get to "take it all out" on the equiptment. Getting outside to run clears my head, and the endorphines definately DONT suck!
What Ive really enjoyed as I've focused on weight training, Crossfit and cleanng up my diet is how great I feel and all the compliments I get from friends, family and strangers at the gym. :P
