The main reason I chose to create a Bodyspace page is to be able to document my journey through my 3rd(and hopefully last) knee surgery.
This vicious cycle began on May 5, 2012. The previous week, after a year of job hunting and interviewing, I had finally packed all my belongings from my little 1 bedroom apartment in Sanford, Florida, and driven home to York, PA. After working with my family, managing a business for almost 4 years, I decided that I needed a change and that wasn't my path to happiness; a career in Law Enforcement was. I got hired for the next training class in my hometown, was offered a varsity coaching job at a local high school...things were coming together. They soon fell apart.
I had played the last 3 seasons as a DE/LB for the Orlando Rage. Heard of them? You should have. We were the most dominant team in all of minor league football. Florida ball was a whole other breed- big, fast, extremely competitive, and just what I loved to do. Before joining the FFA, the Rage has won the last 2 or 3 league titles and were looking for better competition, and I was looking to put the pads back on after playing for 4 years at Millersville University(PA). We were damn good. 2 National Titles, and 2/3 Florida Football Alliance (FFA) Championships. Their last win would be my last game.
The struggle. The feeling of accomplishment. The feeling of disappointment. The solitude you can create by putting on your headphones and throwing up your hood. The peace. The war. The challenge.
My journey began in the weight room of West York Area High School in early 2000. I was in 9th grade. As a multi-sport athlete, off season training began to become something important that set the spacing between mediocre, and talented.
Looking back, football has always been my first love. I've wrestled, played basketball, participated in track and field, and spent a lot of springs and summers playing baseball. Once I figured out I was pretty good at football (through many recruiting letters), a fire was set ablaze that burned for me to become the best I could be. I had enough raw talent to put myself on the map, but I was someone who has found that outworking everyone else is the most satisfying, efficient, and productive way to get things done. Preparation breeds success.
