Apart from being a casual gym visitor, going hard for 2 weeks to then fall off the wagon, lose motivation and not get anywhere in size of fitness. I talked my friends into joining me in the Tough Mudder Challenge. This is where things changed. We would openly talk about our workouts and diet without stigma. We would catch up as a group and run our own course in the park and use children's play equipment like our own out door gym. As a group we got fit and completed out very first 21Km (half marathon) with challenging obstacles and we felt on top of the world. WE where looking pretty good too.
We have now completed 3 Tough Mudders and in the mean time my friends have had babies and the training has slacked off majorly. Aprox 6 months has past and I find even though we are still training our own individual plans our motivation to go hard is lost. With out a goal and fear of failure to push us we have dropped off significantly.
So, bring on Spartan Race Australia! Our new goal is a 7km sprint of 15+ obstacles across mud fields, 8 foot walls, fire, rope, barbed wire, the lot. Fail an obstacle, that's 10 burpees. I've learned to love burpees now. But not sure how well I will go in this highly intense race. As a group we have agreed we are going for time.
Wish us luck.
