Sciatica A Good Thing!?! New stuff to share with many of you. I have had a problem with my back since 5-22-16 and sciatica for many years. This time the sciatica was different, it wouldn't go away! That drove me back into a doctor's office after many years of avoiding them. Last time I wrote about this, my chiropractor ordered a MRI. Yesterday I had a follow-up with my doctor after blood work, pee test and Monday's MRI. The results were very positive as far as how healthy I am. My cholesterol was 221, she said normally I would be concerned because it should be 200 or below, but mine was fabulous! My bad cholesterol level was extremely low and my good cholesterol was super high!!! That is an amazing thing for her to see, I guess. See eating healthy pays off my friends. All my other tests were off the charts, great, healthy as a horse! Now for the bad part of my situation- My MRI showed L2-L3 herniated with minimal narrowing, L4-L5, and S1 herniated with sever narrowing of my spine. L4-L5 encroaching upon my exiting sciatic nerve root in the extraforaminal zones. Ok, not good at all, right? After all this time, had my first appoint with physical therapy this morning. Here's the kicker, speaking with my future therapist, she said that my sciatica was a blessing in disguise. I was like what!!! Really? How? She said it tipped me off that there was a serious problem and that put me into motion of self-therapy, and she is very hopeful that I will pull through this and recover to almost 100%. She went on to say, "Many others live with herniation of their discs, and they have NO idea, creating a more serious condition". Because my sciatica was so painful, it slowed me down forcing me to switch up my workouts / stretching, and listen to my body. Because I acted so fast with my training, I possible saved myself from surgery. Salute Friends, enjoy your weekend!
