embrace the suck

This morning I overheard a client and trainers conversation in which the trainer asked how their client was today. The client responded "awful, I hate coming here and I hate doing this". The trainer in me wanted to scream out 'then why the hell are you here?' What I felt even more sorry for was the client themselves. Can you imagine how lack of responsive your body would be if you arrived at the gym everyday telling it I hate what we are about to do. The body achieves what the mind believes and before even stepping into the place you are already sabotaging any benefit to what's about to occur. Things to consider: 1. Remember your WHY? Why did you take that first step and sign up/contact to begin with? 2. Then remember the WHY you chose that gym, that trainer, that type of exercise. If the initial reasoning was because you just needed to get moving, get exercising, get stronger, get healthier...there is a million and one options to achieve all of those in a way that you wouldn't approach with such negativity. It's not always going to be FUN but it should be something you genuinely look forward to attending. 3. EMBRACE the SUCK. I say it a lot to my athletes- today is not going to be easy so before we even start I want you to mentally tell yourself a. what's about to occur is going to be TOUGH, but I am TOUGHER b. No one has ever died from specifically working out.....I won't be the first. c. Change begins at the end of my comfort zone so let's get uncomfortable d. I WANT THIS....whatever "IT' is YOU have chosen to do Change the way you think about IT and it will change the way you FEEL about it.....
