10K Trail Run -2nd Place
OVERALL RATING
A friend and I set out to complete a trail run, just for fun. We do not run consistently and often think of running as a chore. So we decided our only goal was to complete the 10k, we wouldn't worry about the time, who was in front or behind. We would take in the rare cool weather we get in South Florida and the beautiful train and nature as opposed to the normal pavement, parking lots and highways. We didn't train before, I woke up late, rushed to get food in me and out the door and somewhat froze in the time waiting before the race (sorry to the northerns, my body does not adapt well to temperatures in the 50s). The trail was two laps to complete the 10K, I enjoyed a pace where I could sing along to my headphones. By lap two, a small voice in my head said "you have a chance to place," and it was all over. I picked up the pace a little, then a little more, completely out of breath telling myself just pass the next person and once I did, repeated that mantra. With one tiny thought my fun run turned into a competition and low and behold, I pushed myself through lots of trips, falls, racing heart, shortness of breath and placed 2nd. I am temporarily happy, but now that same little voice is saying "imagine what you're actually capable of if you truly put your mind to a goal?" "How far can I go? What do I want to achieve? And how do I make it happen?" Here's to small achievements, constant improvements and the rabbit hole of always wanting to learn more, do more, be more.
