Self-talk: a never ending dialogue between you and you People often ask me how it is I do it. How I stay focused, committed, motivated to not only show up but to show up and make it count. It's not something that comes easy nor should it because we all know if it was simple everyone would do it..right? I find that those who are successful in this world are those who use self talk through it all and better yet positive self talk!! Positive self talk allows one to believe in their success before it happens, to envision the sense of gratitude, the excitement, and the achievement they will feel once they reach what they set out to do. Yesterday was leg day for me. Typically a day where a lack of motivation does not exist as I am quite passionate about my leg workouts. But feeling a bit off lately due to seasonal change, lack of sleep and overall life I had to talk my way through it. Wanting to cut sets short, drop my weights, justify why it was okay to end early- these are conversations me vs me bantered back and forth the entire hour. But I am not one who lives with failure easily and to me any of the above would of kept me up all night contemplating why I gave up so eagerly. So I often remind myself of a these 2 things: 1. Pain is temporary but that guilt of being a 'quitter' will last a lifetime(or atleast the rest of the day). And 2. When I finish strong I feel STRONG. Finishing by default (aka cutting corners) is like winning by forfeit (aka the other team doesn't show up). Sure you showed up but did you really earn the win???
