First day working out since my back injury Sunday
OVERALL RATING
My first day exercising since my back injury! I'm pretty confident with everything I do in the gym EXCEPT for deadlifting. I'm not experienced with it, and DL form isn't as easy for me to master. On Sunday I decided to DL, and I injured my lower back. My head was down, and I didn't drive with my legs. I knew what I did wrong as soon as it happened, and I felt the sharp back pain. I stopped working out immediately, and went home. My husband was supposed to get underway Monday, and I could barely move without excruciating pain so I decided to call the nurse hot line to see what to do. They instructed me to go to the ER, and while the ER doctor was super nice, it was a pointless visit bc he just prescribed me an anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxer and sent me on my way. I'm lucky my husband's superiors were super understanding and let him hold off on getting underway bc I pretty much slept all of Sunday and Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday I iced my back 24/7, did pelvic exercises and stretches, foam rolled, and went to the Chiropractor (both days). I'm convinced this is the reason I had a speedy recovery. I listened to my body each day. I didn't push myself, but I was pro-active about my recovery. The human body truly is amazing. If you have an injury, listen to your body! Rest, and be pro-active. I'm still avoiding lifting right now so today I did a 40 min cardio circuit at home, and 20 mins on the stair climber. It actually made my back feel really good to warm up my body and get sweating. That's a good sign. Now hopefully I continue to recover quickly, so I can keep killing it in the gym.
