I started working out in college after wrestling competitively for over 15 years. Being at 118lbs as a Freshman in college I wanted to stop all the madness of the weight loss and start getting bigger and stronger. So for the next 20 years I just concentrated on working out off and on never once touching any drugs or performance enhancers at all. When I turned 35 I was way too heavy and went into the hospital and almost died of cardiac arrhythmia. I was in the hospital for a week and told I needed to take medication for the rest of my life and stop heavy lifting. I turned to natural remedies for arrhythmia such as heavy doses of COQ10 and Magnesium. I continued working out even harder and decided at age 40 I would like to compete. At age 42 I entered into the SNBF Southern Natural Open and did not place. I was very disappointed but looking back my conditioning was terrible. I had the size on everyone but did not diet near enough. I went back to training with a goal in mind of competing this year 2012. I started training and dieting at a heavy 198 lbs on January 1st with a goal of 1 to 1.5 lbs a week of weight loss over 24 weeks with my goal of competing in the Carolina Supernatural on June 16th and then the Southern Open SNBF Championships on July 21st.
Bodybuilding I feel has saved my physical life...as Jesus Christ has saved my spiritual life. They both, along with my wonderful family, are what I think about when I wake up and when I go to bed. I feel I have a new lease on life at age 44 and bodybuilding has kept me looking and feeling younger then I ever have.
