After seeing an unflattering photo of myself just after high school, I decided to join a gym and start working out. As a complete beginner, I didn't know anything about training or nutrition, and spent hours doing cardio and classes. It took me about 6 months to drop 8 kilos, but I still wasn't happy, so I decided to hire a PT. After a year with him, I learned how to lift heavy and properly, eat to fuel my body, and supplement it for the best possible results. I shed 5-7% body fat, and reached new PB's (i.e. 100kg deadlift, bodyweight pull-ups, 40kg military press etc). I was stronger than ever, and addicted.
I train purely for myself and my personal goals. The way I feel after an intense workout, or breaking through a strength plateau is indescribable. Often, I'll train alone, as I use this time to focus intensely on a mind-muscle connection, and put everything I've got into lifting that extra kilo for that extra rep. Accountability is something I hold on myself, so training with a partner, for me, is purely about the social interaction and approaching training from a different perspective.
I love that people from my work, gym, uni or hometown come to me with questions about their own personal goals and how to reach them, and what's even better is that I can offer them my honest advice!
