Before making the change and making the time for the gym in Feb 2006, I had only gone occasionally to workout. Some how between Nov 2003 & Feb 2006, I had managed to go from 200lbs to 169lbs. I got serious about starting working out when my hubby deployed for 8 months in 2006. At first I was working out to lose weight. I lost 35 lbs in 8 months. During that time I tried different diets, but found that cleaning out the diet was the best. Then in November 2008 I began to add more weight lifting into my routine. That's when I started to lose inches and gain muscle. Then I met my trainer/friend in Oct 2009, and started to workout with her. In Jan 2010 I decided to train for my first figure competition, June 19th 2010. After that competition I continued to train for my second competition, Aug 2010, where I told 5th place. Since then I've competed in 4 more competitions, where I've take 1st & 3rd. I also ran a half marathon Nov 2011 in Pensacola, FL, and competed in a PowerLifting Meet June 2012 where I took 1st in the woman's heavy weight and overall...I was one of two girls that competed, the other was in middle weight:). As for now, I'm trying to stay fit and healthy.
It makes me feel good and healthy. I really like seeing the changes that happen on a weekly basis. But mostly the self-confidence working out has given me! But most of all, I like going into the gym and feeling like one of the guys. Knowing that I'm not looked at as "some girl" trying to lift, but as the chick that might kick some ass to get a stop in the free weight area:)
