For some time I wanted to secretly compete but didnât know where to begin, who to talk to, or what to do. I thought it would always just remain a dream of mine. I kept poking around at the gym, reading bodybuilding.com, and just talking to people. I worked out until I was 38 weeks pregnant and was right back at it when he was 2 weeks old. I knew I wanted to do something but wasnât sure where I fit in, yet. I didnât know a thing about diet or how to properly train, etc. I finally poked around enough and ran into Angela Barnhill at the gym. She competed in the NPA. I went to one of her shows and I just knew I belonged on stage. My husband (Trevor Delano) encouraged me to go talk to her on the break. We exchanged contact information and met up. I fully expected her to say I had several years of training ahead of me. Instead, she said three months to compete in Figure. I was ecstatic. I still didnât fully realize what hard work lied ahead. Now I had a goal.
Angela soon moved away, before my competition date. I was then introduced to IFBB Pro Van Anthony and he saw further potential. It was complete luck! I was his first client.
I love this sport for several reasons. I enjoy it, I am good at it, and this is where I belong. I have met some pretty amazing competitors and we have become friends. Everyday, I have goals that I must achieve. The rush on Stage is so overwhelming and fulfilling that leaves me wanting more. Working out is the easy part. The everyday struggles that require disciple, dedication, and determination are what I thrive for. Competitive bodybuilding is a community all in its own right. It is filled with some pretty amazing men and women. I am honored to be one of them
