Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the happiest moments of your life right? In my case, it was also the scariest. I was pregnant in 2014 and considered obese with all kinds of health issues. I was eventually diagnosed with gestational diabetes at the start of my second trimester. At 5 weeks left before our due date my doctor informed me that I needed to deliver now and warned me that I may not make it after giving birth. On January 1, 2015 I was blessed with a healthy baby girl and blessed to still be alive. After Mikayla was born I went through so many changes emotionally and physically. I was too busy taking care of everything around me but myself. Soon I realized I was turning 30, overweight, pre-diabetic, high glucose level, high blood pressure, low self-esteem, lacking confidenceâ¦. & that is when it all hit me. This couldnât be it and this definitely wasnât me. I knew I needed to take care of my well-being for the sake of my daughter. I needed to be happier, healthier, stronger and a better role model for her to look up to. After that moment I started my journey with a goal of losing 30 lbs before 30. Everything I have learned in the beginning was from the internet, through friends, people I met at the gym and a lot of personal trial and error. It wasn't until I finally built up the courage to work with a coach that I learned so much more about how exercise, nutrition and lifestyle work hand in hand. I am forever grateful for crossing paths with my online coach. (Shout out to Jeremy Sry!) Over 2 years and minus 50+ pounds later... I show no signs of diabetes, I am healthier, I am happier and I am living.
When I first started I wanted to lose weight and look a certain way but the entire experience turned into something beyond my expectations. Working out and living fit is one thing you're in total control of yourself. Your results are from the work you put in. Seeing progress within myself, my strength, physique and willpower has been so fulfilling. This turned into more than an experience, it's a lifestyle.
