For reason I can't really remember, I started doing TaeBo home workouts with Billy Blanks on VHS tapes (yes I said VHS!) in my bedroom when I was about 13. Hey, everyone starts somewhere!
I had always loved the water so when I started high school I tried out for the water polo team... next thing you know I spent the next 4 years in the pool year round. My first exposure to weight training was in the high school weight room for team strength training.
After high school sports ended I had a huge hole that needed to be filled. I found a lock and key fit by teaching group fitness classes. I started teaching Spinning when I was 18 and never looked back. From there one thing led to another. Now I teach everything... when I say that I mean it... Pilates, Yoga, Boot Camp, Zumba, Step, Toning, Silver Sneakers etc etc etc.
To satisfy my competitive side I often compete in triathlons, organized runs and of course bikini competitions. In preparation for bikini competitions weight training has become a much larger part of my exercise program.
It has been a wild ride and I'm loving every second of it!!!
I have always been a little high strung and a lot hyper active ;) Exercise is my sanity. A nice hard workout does more for me than any drug in this world could ever do. It is fun and feels great! I love to see the results of my hard work both in performance and aesthetically.
Also, it is truly awe inspiring to witness the amazing goals my clients achieve. Not just muscle gain or fat loss. Yes they are nice to see, but many other goals exist. I can not begin to express the joy I feel in hearing a client tell me they noticed something in their everyday life was easier, better, or less intimidating because of the work they have been doing in the gym. Exercise can improve independence and quality of life, prevent or alleviate injury, correct postural deviations, and on and on.... the list is endless!!
Maybe a better question would be "what don't you love about bodybuilding/working out?" - NOTHING! I love it all!
