I've always considered myself 'active,' growing up dancing nearly 7 days a week and competing. In high school, while still maintaining regular dance classes, I was a squad leader on our school's dance team. I went off to college at the ripe age of 17 and sort of lost sight of my fitness goals...or maybe I just wasn't sure what my goals were anymore as it pertained to fitness and how to incorporate it into my new lifestyle. I started taking classes at the gym but nothing serious or consistent. In 2010, just over a year after my mom died, I decided I needed a positive outlet, for my sake and the sake of my then 3-year old. I began running. I'm small framed to begin with, but I became very lean. In 2012, I decided I wanted to focus on adding muscle. It's been a journey ever since. Today, thanks to Bodybuilding.com's programs, Bodyspace and Myfitnesspal, I have a better grip on my nutrition, and am able to incorporate a weight training/cardio exercise routine on my own at the gym and at home.
I love bodybuilding/working out because during it I feel empowered and after it I feel accomplished. Something about pushing yourself beyond limits you never thought imaginable, it's a feeling like no other. It's my outlet, my happy place and, honestly, my it's a part of me that makes me ME.
