In highschool, I was always "the one that got picked last" in sports. I weighed about 150lbs for a short, asian guy - a chubster. I came to realize that I just didn't have an atheletic body. Truth is, everyone has an atheletic body; you just need to develop it.
It started in 2007 when I became a US Marine. Marine Corps bootcamp is notoriously known as the toughest boot camp in all branches of the US Armed Forces. A couple months before, I naturally lost some baby fat, but even still, I wasn't considered "fit". That all changed.
The "Crucible" was my final test in boot camp - it was a total of 48 miles of hiking up and downhill, all the while carrying atleast 70lbs worth of dead weight. The entire course ran for 54 hours and each night, I was only allowed 4 hours of sleep. I honestly thought I just wasn't capable of strenous activity, but I was completely wrong.
Fast forward to 2009. I was deployed to Afghanistan for the first time. There was literally nothing to do besides stare at rocks. We didn't have computers, television, game systems or anything. What we did have were Muscle magazines and the gym.
I was "in shape" at the time, but now I was short and skinny. This made my figure look even smaller. Unfortunately, I didn't care about packing on muscle. I thought that if I looked skinny, I looked good. I was never a gym type of person, but all my buddies went.
I decided to try it out. I mean, there wasn't anything else to do for the rest of the deployment. That day, I experienced my first "PUMP" and oh, it felt good (that sounds disgusting). I was hooked.
I bought my first stack - the Gaspari Mass Monster Stack.
After the deployment was over, I looked great! This is my story.
Point blank - "working out" sucks! I mean, who loves being in pain?!
But the benefits, which are both physical and mental, greatly outweigh the costs. This is why we workout.
Also, don't you just feel refreshed and accomplished after a good workout? See? Just ONE example of physical and mental benefits.
But what really inspires me is how the body reacts to physical strain.
Physical strain breaks down muscle fibers and the body has the ability to naturally heal itself. Not only that, it makes itself stronger and better!
Hormones, protein synthesis, metabolic rates... Body building is a science!
