I started working out with my boss (a female around my same age).
Being short and petite, I never had weight issues, but I have trouble areas like many women around the lower body. I worked out just to do it but really took it seriously around 2001. I was unemployed and wanted to see results, so I consulted a nutritionist regularly and spent a lot of time working out between college classes.
With nothing but time on my hands, I was in the gym all of the time, rollerblading and eating egg whites, brown rice, protein shakes and chicken plus supplements regularly. I looked so amazing that I was turning heads and being asked for fitness advice everywhere.
Later, the supplements I took (ephedra and pro-hormones) were banned. That combination led to me looking regular again. Years later, I was in an accident and put on meds that caused me to gain about 20+ pounds.
I was so embarrassed to be seen that I worked out extremely early in the group fitness room to avoid being seen on the gym floor where I once was proud. Fortunately now, I'm back. Not like I was with muscles popping out everywhere, but that's okay. I lost all of the pounds and met my weight goal.
Just recently, I got a compliment from a stranger who asked if I lift weights. That meant so much. It's been decades since that's happened! Also, I've gone back to my old clothes I haven't worn in years. Some I had to button are slipping on...and off. Oops. Time to update the wardrobe!
Now, just least leaning my thighs and re-gaining 'some' definition will be sufficient. That's the new goal.
When I work out, I am happier and less likely to be irritable.
Also, being able to fit my clothes better is priceless. Getting compliments is rewarding because it's proof that the work shows and inspires others.
