I started working out in 1999. I used to go to the gym after work mon-fri. I red musclemag and flex religiously as I never had a pc or internet then ,so the magazines were my only source of information.I cooked my steak, turkey and fish every Sunday for the week.I ate 6 times a day and took amino acids (tried the liquid and it was yuck and then went to tablets and they were huge).I tried many different protein powders and creatine.I bulked for 6 months and tried cutting for 6 months.I only ever got down to like 18% bodyfat. I stopped working out when I left England at a weight of 190lbs.My lowest was 180lbs. Our family went through a lot in the next few years and all of the good (new) food and looking after our son left me at 230lbs in 2011. I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn't like what I saw. I looked at myself and said you need to lose weight( that and my wife said that I snored like a chainsaw since i had put on the extra pounds. I cut down on my portion sizes and cut carbs for a while from my supper, but they always seem to creep back in and I kept giving in to my cravings. At the beginning of 2012 the CEO of our company moved some old weights and a bench into our locker room.I looked at the weights and thought that maybe i should crank up my diet and start to lift again. I challenged myself to be "fit at 40".I wanted to be in better shape at 40 than i was when I left England at 28. I looked for ideas on the net and started counting calories. I found Bodybuilding.com and it felt like I had struck gold with all of the information on training and nutrition. The lifting was going well but there were only so many exercises I could do with just a bench. I looked through my local kijiji for used exercise equipment. I found a few racks/half racks and I approached the CEO to see if he was willing to help with the cost( he too likes the iron). He looked at the equipment and suggested buying a new half rack ( I asked for a lat tower) so he bought us a new half rack with lat tower attachment.I charted weights and workouts and keep a close eye on my calories and macro nutrients. I currently use Mutant whey, salmon oil and green tea extract( was using CLA too) as I can't really afford to use many supplements. I have dropped 38 lbs in 1 year( went from 230 to 215 by just dieting then went up to 220 when first started lifting and now down to 192lbs). I feel great and am well on track to my goal. Now my family ask me when they have diet/training questions and my wife has just started working out too.
