I started my journey in fitness as a Certified Fitness Instructor in 1985. I quickly found my new fitness family at the gym and embellished it as part of my existence. I placed 5th in my first competition in 1985 and loved the sport. I continued bodybuilding and instructing group fitness until 1996 when I certified for Weight Room Training and Personal Training. I was diagnosed with Chronic Systemic Lupus shortly after the same year. It slowed me down but I used the gym as my therapy and support. In 2000 I certified as a Johnny G Spinning instructor. Indoor biking was gentle on my joints and strengthened my lungs. As I became healthier I certified as a Kickbox Instructor and Functional Training Specialist. I started personal training in 1999 in addition to teaching my classes. By 2005 with proper nutrition I was completely off of all drugs for my lupus.
If I could achieve wellness through fitness and nutrition then my divine purpose was to help others heal as a certified wellness coach. I have worked at many gyms as I moved around the country and started Positive Energy Wellness. I certified as a Food Psychology Coach to counsel and teach integrative nutrition with meal plans for clients to achieve awareness about themselves. .
I am currently personal training, teaching bootcamp and coach clients on our FB program LTL (Online) Lifestyle Weight Management program for fat loss and general good health for a lifetime.
I worked at a gym called Unique Physique where I became intrigued with weight lifting and bodybuilding. The owners were proactive about fitness and competing. This was a great way to stay healthy in mind, body and soul. I liked the fact this sport was about me and challenging myself to be my best.
In 2011, I placed 1st in the WBB heavyweight and Overall. KY Muscle. In 2013 I placed 3rd in the WPD and Open WPD KY Muscle.. I am looking to compete in the 55 yr old division in another year. Bodybuilding is a positive part of my life. It has gave me a reason to fight for my health and to pay it forward.
