I started training when I was 17 and weighed in a mere 120lbs. I was always a skinny kid and it was the bain of my existence. When i was 17 i decided enough was enough and started hitting the weights. After approximately five years i went from 120lbs to 215 lbs drug free. I was very strong but also very fat. Being a skinny kid my whole life I was obsessed with getting bigger no matter what.... Even if that meant being a bit fat.
When i was approximately 32 years old the years of heavy lifting finally did me in. I was pressing 375lbs and blew my shoulder. After this injury I struggled with chronic pain and ironically still continued with the heavy training. After about six months of this my wife stopped me one day when I was literally lifting my bad arm up with my other arm which was a daily routine for me when I got out of bed. She said to me that working out made no sense if I was going to suffer like I was every day
Its at the age of 33 that a made a big change. Stopped training like a power lifter and joined a boxing club. Went from 215 lbs to 165 in approximately one year. I spent the next five years from that time training religiously 5 to 6 days a week at the club with some minimal weights on the side. After about five years I started to get back into the weights more and starting coaching boxing more than I was taking it.
Today at the age of 41 I am now a more well rounded athlete. My training consists of a lot of weightlifting but it also consists of boxing style training and some crossfit programs. I am doing the Core challenge to help me finally get to what i would consider the perfect physique for my body......its only taken me about 24 years to get here......:)P
Why I Love it
Working out to me is as essential as eating and sleeping. i cannot see myself living a life where working out was not a part of it. It gives me time where I can focus on nothing but training and allows me to de-stress from the everyday. It truly is my love and addiction
