How I Started
Gestational diabetes 1996, controlled by diet and exercise whole pregnancy, went away after delivery.
doctors warned if I didn't get rid of the weight would become full blown diabetes.
so in 1997, mom, dad and i all ate low fat after my divorce all lost tons of weight.
my most gone was 96lbs. that went along well until had some difficulties personally, that i should of jogged away instead of eating. with in about 2 years i had gained most of it back.
2001-moved to kamloops, New relationship on the rocks, he and I finally split up approximately 2006.
By this point, I have pretty much self destructed, the only numbers i see on the scale are "error" the digital scale has a 350lb max.
June 2012, sugars sat at 24 (supposed to be between 4-7).
Wouldnt budge even with maximum dose of metphormin.
August 2012 after 2 mos of better eating and exercise, I ended up on insulin by injection.
I now have a huge hole in the bottom of my foot, where an infection has errupted.
3 weeks of antibiotics and ointment and doctoring my mom and sister (cause I cant reach my feet) (bless them for this) I was so scared I would lose my foot.
God what was a I thinking,.Time to wake up. Look out lifestyle change!!!!
September 2012 I joined TCC's gym and have been going every since.
February 2013- learned about low gi eating. what an amazing thing. This has now morphed into clean eating now.
April 2013 went off insulin cause i can now manage my sugars with diet and exercise a good amount of metphormin left but no needles :) thankfully.
Oct 2013 walked first CIBC Run - time 5km 50 mins. Awesome support from my friends at work
May 2014 Joined No Limits Love this new gym, facility is amazing and its close to home. Staff is awesome, and other members are soo very supportive.
July 2014 started using fitnesspal app on my phone- what an amazing tool to track what your intake of calories/protein/carbs/fat etc is!!
Aug 2014 started run walk training, so can run most of CIBC Run for Cure in Oct this year
Oct 2014 - Ran CIBC Run for Cure 5 km with Rachel Wood 38 mins. stopped 3 times to walk to breath :) Loved it.
November and December still training like I am going to run. 60 mins of high intensity interval cardio 3 days a week, 3 days of lifting, 1 day rest, still walking on breaks and lunches most days at work. Loving my Vivofit to track my steps!!! Putting on many miles this is awesome.
2015 Jan 1
Goals for this year:
Run Cibc Run for Cure again - at least a time of 25 mins or better
going to leg press my old weight of 383lb, currently doing 310
starting 4 day split weight training this week, focusing on muscles a bit more for a bit, will continue my cardio same as previously w 1 day rest weekly.
Maybe do the Spartan run in Sept, will really depend on my weightloss this year.
2014 only down 35 lbs, previous year like 100 LOL.
Focusing more on caloric in and out and protein balance to maintain my lovely new muscles that I love so much :)
Jan 10 2015 Yes I have joined Bodybuilding.coms contest. Eat Clean, Train hard for 12 weeks. Big prizes and more motivation! Look out its the final stretch and I posted pictures of myself on the website in a gym bra and bathing suit bottom like I am in my right mind :) I have nothing to lose but the rest of this :) Lets do it!
July 2015, have been off day time diabetes medicine about 5 weeks now, hypoglycemic stuff seems to be settled except for when I go long between food, which doesn't happen often if I am on my game. Have been lifting hugely heavy, having some difficulty recovering, started some creatine to see if this helps things along. Feeling a little tired but good, realize I need to focus more on nutritional pieces and reduce my intake to see some more weight loss. its very hard to have appetite control when lifting like I am. Damn it makes me hungry. If I make sure my protein is up, this is reduced a little. Baby steps, head down! keep moving forward.
2017 been doing reps and heavy, now just focusing on heavy....let it fly!!
Why I Love it
I love lifting because it does so many amazing things.
1- it clears my head especially after a stressful day at work
2- makes me stronger and more agile
3- makes me feel like I am 16 again
4- I feel bionic
