I had slight scoliosis so my doctor gave me back exercises to do with weights at age 12.
Why I Love It:
For everything else in life you want to be successful at, you need other people's cooperation; in your relationships, in your business, in school, investments, etc. But success in bodybuilding depends on no one else but you.
The only way to retain youthful form, or to turn back the clock, is via strength training. Plastic surgery, hair transplants, make up and nails —they're all cosmetic surface window dressing. Strength training targets the very foundation of our being, muscle and bone, building and strengthening them, creating youthfulness and physical ability from the inside out.
How I Stay Motivated:
When you've won a trophy for excellence in other sports, and you walk down the street, you blend in with everybody else. But when you're a bodybuilder and you walk down the street, you carry your trophy with you.

...but after a while you need to take a break from stuffing yourself with chicken breasts :-)
Goal (Long):
In the eyes of everyday people my physique doesn't vary much, but to me, and you in the bodybuilding community, we know what we're looking at.
I am able to stay focused better than most, and maintain a quality physique, but SIZE is the hard part. That requires non-stop eating, for me more than other people it seems, and some days I literally just want to stop eating altogether. I go for months when I am on a roll when I never experience the slightest pang of hunger, because I'm shoveling down so much chicken breasts and broccoli.
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
Lots. The reason I can still do this at 60 is because when I injure something, I STOP. I may lose size and shape over the short haul, but I think I'm proof that fixing yourself properly via rehab and rest will keep you in the game when others your age dropped out long ago.Lots. What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Ego. Men lift weight that is too heavy for them. If you're a powerlifter, that's fine, it goes with the territory. If you're a bodybuilder, it's just stoopid.

What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
Bench press injury is the #1 reason for guys giving up on their gym membership.
Two factors were responsible for torquing up my biggest gains.
A magazine article by Bill Davey explained clearly why he switched to a one body part per day routine. It made a lot of sense: your body needs a full week to recover and rebuild from a heavy workout, so if you're working the...
Most impressed with your comments and pics ... it is great seeing someone saying the same things I have about weight training having the effect it does one aging. Continue to be relentless!
Rich, Thanks for the links to the outstanding elite Master athletes. I certainly agree that lean mass is a bear to maintain. I just hope chicken stays abundant and available.
Rich,
Not that I ever imagined myself kicking back and coasting in life, but your definitly what I imagine the looking glass into my future holds for me. Maybe you need to change that title to "Growing Younger after 60"
Richard what can I say. You definitely reinforce the reason why I keep on doing this. And you are exactly right about injuries, back off and let it heal. The only reason I remain competitive and to set all time personal records still is because I know when to stop when it hurts. It appears, by looking at you, I am not even close to my best years. Thanks for showing the world how it is done! Troy
WOW SIR! JUST EXPERIENCED YOUR PAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME & AM BLOWN AWAY! THANKS FOR REAFFIRMING THE POSSIBILITIES FOR ME! YOU HAVE ONE THE MOST ROCKED BODIES FOR ANY AGE! BLESSINGS, DAVE.
That's a new name for your, Richard, isn't it. We "spoke" a long, long time ago. Zeke's gotta be proud of his old man. Course, I'm making an assumption about that name. Still looking terrific.
Hi Richard...good to see you back. i actually gave facebook another chance and i have met some very cool people. Maybe they have revamped it, but I just ignore and don't add the childish idiots and if I accept the friendship and they get annoying I block them. but on the whole, I have met some great business and friendship connections.
I hope you are well. did I see you moved to LA?
