Yeah, I would just recommend to start out slow(about 2-3 days/week) so that you don't burn out right at the beginning. Then after a month or two move up to maybe 4 days a week. And yes free weights are the best way to get stronger and look better. Good luck.
The MOST importiant thing is your eating. you have to consume ALOT of protein, and even more carbs. As for your lifting just keep it simple, all mostly free weights, 8-12 rep range.
