I ran in HS, then in College I did not have the time/ambition to work out and I blew up to 185 lbs of flab. I lost that pretty easy once I changed my eating habits and started running again.
For the past 10 years I have been running and staying in the 145 - 155 lbs range. I'd like to add some lean muscle mass.
I have always done a little weight lifting just to maintain some strength and to obtain muscle balance to avoid injuries while running. Running has always been my primary fitness activity and I usually run a marathon every fall then take the winter off to recover. This year I decided to take that time to add some bulk muscle then cut in the spring to see how it impacts my running. I also wanted to finally shake the skinny runner look.
Why I Love It:
I love seeing results. I like to set personal goals and track my progress towards them. I love to eat, and working out lets me do a lot more of that :)
How I Stay Motivated:
Seeing results, keeping a log of weights lifted and food helps me see that I have made good progress. Find where I made good/bad choices and improve later. I have to have something to obsess over. That used to be running, but I hit my goal marathon time this year (2:50) and so now I have switched to weight lifting for a while to see where it takes me.
BB Accomplishments:
Just getting up to 160 lbs and not being all flab. At this weight I have more fat than I would like, but in the past when I was at this weight, it was a lot more flab.

I have always been a skinny runner (except those times when I was a flabby non-runner in college). I would like to add muscle mass, and prove that I can still keep up the pace with my running buddies.
I was planning to bulk until March, but I decided last Tuesday to start my cut early. We are heading on a cruise to Nassau the first w/e in March and I'd like to drop the fat before then. I lost almost 4 lbs the first 4 days. I think it was all my glycogen stored depleting, but I think I...
Just saw your thread. I just started cutting this week myself. Of course, I only "bulked" about 5 lbs, and like you, I feel like it was all fat. :( But maybe we're both just being negative. Have you considered cycling your calories/carbs to avoid your metabolism slowing down?
Great transformation....you're definitely looking swole. Awesome thick chest and cut pecs. Arms have great size and def too. Great lean abdominals. Keep up the great job!
How did you maintain your running while bulking? I wouldn't think you stopped it completely....
I have dropped it down to 3x a week from the usual 6. I'm already seeing some gains after week 1!
