What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Nutrition is key. It is a lifestyle change you have to get your diet in check in order start to see some real gains.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Diet, start out simple take out a can of pop a day or that candy bar. Slowly everything else should fall into place.
