Overall Goal: I just felt thick and heavy, and it didn't help that I started to accumulate clothes that didn't fit since I moved to Michigan in 2004. Time to trim up, work on my build, and feel good about my health.

How I Started:
In spring of 2007 I decided to re-join a gym and attempt to get back in shape. The goofy thing is while I weigh about the same as I did a year ago, it's definitely more muscle than fat. ::sigh::
Why I Love It:
Mostly I like the regimen and feeling of improvement. This summer people started to comment that I had begun to drop the weight and my build began to show. Gotta say I like that, too.
How I Stay Motivated:
I want to feel like I'm genuinely at my best, all the time, instead of leaving my best years behind me.
A friend posted this picture from our group trip in July 2008. Me eating a cookie. I was horrified. Even though I have been hitting the gym, I wasn't dropping weight, and this picture served as a gut check for what my intentions really needed to be.
I'm attempting to drop weight. I still have a gut, but, it doesn't worry me as much as the cookie photo did. I think the goal right now is.. cutting. I need to learn to cut properly.

Goal (Long):
My friends have always declared me a pretty solid strong-looking guy, and I've certainly worked out off and on for years, but, I'd like to sport the genuine article. Yeah, the beach body, perhaps, but, since I don't live near a beach, how about just good clothes. Cuz it's Michigan! I'd freeze ripping off my shirt all the time.
I'd like to be able to do at LEAST 50 pushups nonstop by November. Hey, maybe more. I don't seem to have the right strength where I need it to do good pullups, so that's another great milestone to achieve. I want to lose two or more inches from my waist. And bench my body weight. I'd like to see a genuine bicep again when I flex. And I've never had abs, that I can recall, so that'd be the last thing I'd like to add - but maybe more than that, those cool muscles along the rib cage and torso would be fine. Maybe I will come up with more goals as I go along.

Usually I start out with a basic fitness book, and then I try to review recent men's fitness magazines for ideas on how to vary my approaches. I'm bloody awful about following regimens and reading too much text doesn't work for me, so I've had to rely on quick examples and observance for the most part. I'm due to enlist the aid of a personal trainer soon to break my bad habits and push me along, now that I'm feeling comfortable with just doing things. Managed to swing out to the gym again after work. This could be a trend. I like.
Decided to do some chest exercises today. Not sure I pushed it hard enough, but, I also added in a few more lbs and topped the day off with the elliptical. By the time I left, felt pretty tuckered out. In a...
