I got started as a contest with my brother. We are both fully overweight and felt it was time to do something about it.
The contest was for 6 months, who could lose the most. I started at 348 and my brother started at 320.
When we came to the final weigh in I had lost 50 pounds and won the contest. Unfortunately after that I gave myself license to start eating the same old ways and 2 months later I feel I'm back to the same starting weight.
I'm going to try to used this site and the blogs to give myself a new found motivation to lose the weight I need to lose to be happy, healthy and get some of my self confidence back. Stay tuned for updates...
Why I Love It:
I don't love working out. I love the end result of working out. I'm going to experiment with things to do, so I can enjoy working out. I'll let you know what I come up with in this blog.
How I Stay Motivated:
I don't know yet, first it was a bet, now I have nothing to drive my motivation. I'm going to have to find the will to succeed and just nut up and do. Otherwise I won't be long for this world...

I played some ball in school...
How many times have you heard that one? When I started out on my football career as a freshman in high school I was 5'8" and 160 pounds. I gradually found the weight room and the dinner table. And by the time I graduated high school, I was a respectable 6'1" and 235 pounds.
I was an all league defensive lineman and I had the chance to play for a local college. Before I got to my new school I was told by the coaches that I needed to put on some weight. "You're gonna meet up with some 300 pounders..." They offered up that advice, but didn't give me the correct advice on how to do it. So, I ate everything and then I ate some more. I put on 35 pounds over that summer and came into college at 270 pounds. I worked out over that summer, but I was really out of shape, when I started practicing, I started losing some weight. So, to combat that I ate more and more. I didn't know about weight gainers or protein shakes. I ate like crap. But I was playing ball, so I didn't look bad or feel bad.
Then I stopped playing ball. I blew out my shoulder and was not able to come back from it. I stopped going to school and got a real job.
Problem - I kept eating like I was playing ball... But, I was single, and I'd hit up the gym most days to try to keep myself looking decent.
New Problem - Not really a problem, but an interesting developement. I got a girlfriend... Then we got engaged... Then we got married... then we had a son... All these things led to my complacent life style. And I kept eating like I was playing ball. I don't blame anyone but myself for not having the will or disapline to take care of myself.
Last January, I finally got some motivation, in form of a bet, to do something. I weighed in at 348 lbs, the biggest I have ever been. Totally unacceptable! I entered into a work out and diet plan that worked pretty well. I lost 50 pounds in just under 6 months. The problem was that this bet only covered a 6 month period and when it was over Daddy went on to eat everything like it was my job!
I'm affraid I'm back to my old weight as of today 10/12/06. I don't know for sure, because I haven't been back to the gym in 4 months to weigh in.
Here and now is where I make my decision to get back to the healthy life style. I plan on using this site for motivation and to use it as something that I can be accountible to. I will do weekly if not daily blogs to update my progress.
My goal is by the end of this thing to be one of the weekly transformations on this site. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.
Wish me luck...

Workout Program:
My goal is to work out 5 out of the 7 days of the week.
For the first 3 weeks of the program I will do 30-45 minutes of cardio to get my wind up. Probaby 20 minutes on the cross trainer machine and try to do a fast pasted walk on the treadmill for a mile a day.
hey man, you can do it! sure, losing weight and not eating everything in sight sucks, but the best results are you looking and feeling better, and your family seeing what a great example you are setting! as you know, kids watch everything that us parents do, and we need to set the best example we can! i wish you the best of luck with your weight loss goals, stay strong!
