When I Started:
Aug, 2006
How I Started:
My friend (Marky!!) got me a gym membership as a late birthday present, ever since then I've been going regularly.
Why I Love It:
I love bodybuilding because it helps improve you drastically. To be good at bodybuilding (especially natural bodybuilding) you have to keep up with fitness articles, new research, supplements, experiment with new exercises and reach goals (only to make new ones). There is also little denial in that you must accept the reality of your physique to ever move forward as a competitor. Humbling yourself this way also helps you pick out who to work under, and reminds you that you too have to help someone under you. Bodybuilding is also not just very real-time, its full time and being able to sustain the stress it entails helps me put things in perspective and reminds me of how capable we ,ordinary people, are.
How I Stay Motivated:
Watching bodybuilding videos on youtube, reading fitness magazines, and surrounding myself with mirrors.
Trying to Bulk up and looking to maybe, just maybe, compete again!
Goal (Long):
Updates:
Four days after placing 1st at the 2008 Kumite Klassic (MuscleMania) in Pittsburgh, PA I destroyed my shoulder (tore my Labrum) while doing DB bench press. My therapist told me to attempt to carry on without surgery because the tear appeared small and I had suffecient muscle to do regular tasks unchallenged...
(Update:)
After going to physical therapy for a little over three months my range of motion is about 99% there, ive gone back to the gym and have seen steady progress. My body has reshaped differently due to a different style of lifting for chest/shoulders. My bodyweight is pretty high but im not as lean as usual (the darn holidays). Im almost as strong as I used to be in presses and have actually gotten a bit stronger in other areas.
My goal is to reach around 215 lbs at a low sustainable bodyfat and maybe compete again.
for those of you keeping up, thanks!
Weight Goal:
I want to GAIN 25 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
8%

What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Being stupid and reckless as I was. I was also working out alone. My advice is to stick to medium reps most of the time (8-12 reps) and when you do have to go heavy (4-8 reps) make sure you have an experienced spotter there guiding you! It's important to find a dedicated workout partner as enthusiastic as you are to ensure your safety!Being stupid and reckless as I was. I was also working out alone. Have you ever had a lifting injury?
Yes
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I currently have a SLAP tear among other things in my right shoulder. I've been going to physical therapy three times per week since the injury (one month till now) and havent lifted any weights. I still feel discomfort but have 99% Range of Motion. I fear going back to the gym and not being able to lift weights as I used to. If I get surgery I will update my bodyspace to reflect that and to inform everyone of the recovery process.I currently have a SLAP tear among other things in my right shoulder. Why I like this video: The music is motivational, this period in bodybuilding was a great transitional one, and shows that Arnold when even not at his very best, is still the best!
besides a terrible injury or accident, what ordinary thing could derail you worst than being sick and having a tough semester? a girlfriend? a job? siblings? crazy parents? you tell me...ive been through a lot, including a bad shoulder injury, but I had the flu during the first 18 days of...
