I also suggest that you take small steps. By taking smaller steps towards a larger goal, you are able to experience success much more quickly and much more often. So instead of telling yourself you're going to lose say, 50 pounds within the year try telling yourself you're going to lose 1 pound this week. Then do it. Remember: “Nothing happens until you make it happen.”

I want to say that I believe you can and will achieve your fitness goal. I don't know what program you use but my wife (bodyspace: judimax) went from a size 12/14 to a 4/6 in just 12 weeks and I lost over 50 lb in the same time period by following the 12 week Body for Life body transformation program. If we can do it so can you. If you wish more info or if there is ever anything that I can do to be of assistance please feel free to give me a yell. Believe and Achieve!
