When I Started:
Aug, 2008
How I Started:
I was always in great shape. Then I went to work as an OTR driver and my weight started to gain and health depleted. I eventually had to get off the road and found a job where I was home every night. After 8 years on the road I had packed on 63 lbs of fat. I was a U.S. Marine for 6 years and was always physically fit, now it's all gone. Just recovered from shoulder surgery also and Im just tired of the way I look.
Why I Love It:
When I work out I do eat a lot healthier and do not have the desire to smoke or drink. It does overall benefit me and my lifestyle.
How I Stay Motivated:
Just keep thinking about my body when I was in the Marines and how I want to look better than that.
My goal is to loose 25 lbs within a year or turn my weight into shredded muscle so I can look better than what I did in the Marines.
Goal (Long):
When I was a Marine, I was always fit and lean. In the decade that Ive been out I did well but never broke the 200 lbs mark. Then about 5 years ago, my wife got pregnant and I ballooned up to 245 lbs. Keep in mind that I was always fluxuating from 165 to 190 when I competed in beach volleyball. It also didn't help that I was an Over the Road truck driver. So Ive been struggling on getting rid of the weight. I started getting all kinds of health problems, but luckily they are all controllable and reversible. So I got tired of just not doing anything about it and joined a local gym. Then in November I get sidelined with a shoulder injury at work that requires surgery. So finally, I get released to go back to the gym and I have been doing it 4 to 5 times a week. My body feels great and I'm showing improvements everytime I workout. Keep concentrating on form because my shoulder want to cheat all the time. The hardest part is doing it without a partner, but I stay focused on my goals. Have a lot of excellent people that attend the gym that keep me motivated so I keep going back.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 20 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
7%

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Form control was the biggest one.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Watch your form, its better to lift lighter with good control than lift heavy with no control. Work on your control and form when you first get started.
