I stopped smoking four years ago last September (yeah!). I began running to get me through this addiction. It stuck. I started competing in local events...5 and 10k's, and I found out...I'm not that bad of a runner! As of last summer, my runs were 5, 7miles per week with a long run of 10-12 miles. About 45 miles/week. Not bad for an ex-smoker!
Then...I developed a minor injury in my achilles tendon. This slowed me down, significantly, so I started lifting weights a bit more.
Now, I want to compete!!
Why I Love It:
The standard answer...I love working out, because I just makes me feel great!
I love the soreness of a great workout.
I love meeting my personal goals in the gym.
I love a dripping sweat that accompanies an intense workout.
I love the people I meet.
I love the feeling of personal satisfaction.
How I Stay Motivated:
Determination drives me to stay motivated.
I am determined to be healthy to see my grandchildren grow up..I don't have then yet, but someday I will!
I am determined to be a positive influence in my son's life.
I am determined to reach my personal goals.
These, and MANY other reason gets me motivated!!

Confession. I hate dieting and I'm not very good at it. I am at an ideal weight and ideal body fat....but taking it to that next bodybuilding level has always been hard for me. I maintain my weight very well at 2000 + calories a day, so I know just making small CONSISTENT changes would get...
This work out was designed based on a the best qualities of several plans that I believe work best for me. I have customized it to keep my muscles guessing. A guessing muscle is a growing muscle =)

Hey friend! How are you? I know I'm hit and miss on here but my workouts have been going well. I'm thinking of entering a competition in Oct. Have you done this yet?
Hey,
Nothing much to be honest. I have been running every few days and it feels great. I enjoy running through the trails in a huge park by my house. It is way better than running along the side walk of a street. Slowly increasing my lifting weights too. How are things going for you. Do you still plan to compete in the future?
Since the marathon last December I've only run one race, a 4-miler on Feb. 14 that was a disappointment. Running a 5K this Sunday that I hope goes well. After that I'll have my sights set on short races around the beginning of June, and losing weight and increasing running fitness for the fall season and more marathon prep. How are those abs coming along?
Hey, TLC, long time no talk. I was absent from here for a while, focusing on work, but I'm getting back into running. Hope your training is going well. Congrats on the career successes.
Hey Teri...Welcome to the Forty Plusers and glad to have you join our 8 week challenge! As Herm stated you just need to post a couple full length "before" photos, Herm's requirements which was directed more at us guys, post your goals, train hard and kick some A$$! Good Luck!
Sorry for being MIA - they couldn't find anything in the x-ray, but it hurt last time I ran on it. Just got back from a girly trip in Napa and will try to run on it tomorrow!! How are you doing?? Gonna check your blog right now :)
The VCM has sponsored a group for Sunday long runs year round for the past 10+ years. When I first trained for the marathon I joined them, but now I work 3 of 4 Sundays a month, so my chances to run with them are slight. They meet at 8:00 at a health club, and before everyone begins their run they announce their distance and their expected pace. A month ago I started in a group of 4 that dwindled to 2. Yesterday my partner was there from last month, and we began our run together.
Awesome job, you would have finished amoung the top 3 women in my race. I've never had even your type of speed, I'd like to see if I can get any faster my my marathon in 8 weeks.
