Background

When I Started: May 2007
HOW I STARTED:

After a lifetime of inactivity, I decided to get in shape for my 30th birthday-- the best gift I ever gave myself. I stayed active until about halfway through my third pregnancy, when some complications sidelined me. Lost a lot of muscle, gained a lot of fat, but after delivering in August '10 (weighing in at 205!), I jumped right back on the fitness wagon. By the end of the year, I was at my pre-pregnancy weight, but ready to take it to the next level.

WHY I LOVE IT:

It works. I love that with dedication and consistency, I can get results. I used to think I didn't have the genetics to be in great shape. That's garbage. There's no magic pill. It's all just hard work and stick-to-it-ness. I can do that. *** I also love that it's become an important value in my marriage. My husband is a firefighter (and part of a technical rescue team) and fitness is obviously a crucial part of his job. I'm happy that now it's something we can enjoy together.

My Workout Program

I'm in the third/final phase of Scott Prohaska's Awakening program (circuit-based, M- chest, T- back, W- shoulders, F- legs). I'll be finished by Mother's Day and I'm going to take a two week break from lifting to try out hot yoga. Why not, right? I need to improve my flexibility, so hopefully I like it and can incorporate it into my regular schedule. I'm also running Hal Higdon's intermediate 5K plan, for a race on 5/18.

Then I'm starting up Kris Gethin's hardcore video trainer the week of 5/22. Should be fun!

Happy.  Healthy.  Strong.  Motivated.  Confident.  Energized.  Committed.



That's how I feel today.  And maybe the best part of all?  That's how I'm going to feel tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, and the one after that.  Twelve weeks ago, I made a commitment to lose weight and get healthier.  And I did that!  But what I've discovered along the way is a simple, sustainable lifestyle that makes me feel great every day.  As happy as I am to see the results in the mirror, the greatest reward is knowing thes...

Schedule Specifics (relates to Transformation Challenge Essay)

I'm about to post my Challenge essay, but someone asked about specifics.  So I'll give them to you!  Here's my typical schedule:



5:00 a.m. - Wake up, take BCAAs (Xtend).

5:30 a.m. - At the gym lifting (MWF) or outside running (TuThSun).  On Saturdays (a little later in the morning!), I sometimes take a "boot camp" style class with my 4th grade daughter for fun.  Working out with her is the best part of the week!

6:30 a.m. & 9:30 a.m. - BCAAs again.

11:30 a.m. - Break from work to take a walk, if the...

There will be more rejoicing (and my full challenge essay) later.  Right now, I'm dealing with some of life's little obstacles.  Last night, our air conditioner malfunctioned and the drip pan overflowed, soaking two of our ceilings and causing major damage.  When my husband went into the attic to investigate, he ended up losing his footing and stepping through the ceiling in the hallway (which was, prior to that, just fine!).  Thankfully, my husband is fine-- stressed, but not hurt.  But whew!  What a whirlwind.  This is turning into q
