When I Started: Oct, 2005
How I Started: All my life I had been skinny. I only weighed 110lbs when I graduated but only about 5%-6% body fat with a 27 inch waist. Over the years I put on some weight (with age) but was still what I considered small at 140lbs. Finally right before I turned 39 I had enough of being small and decided I wanted to get bigger. I changed my diet and started working out. On my birthday my wife took a chance and bought me a gym membership for my birthday present. That was the best present I could have gotten. After that I knew I had finally "come home" and that my lifestyle would change forever.
Why I Love It: It is the purest thing that I can do. I walk into the gym and it is me and the iron. Me against against the iron. Some days the iron wins - some days I win.
How I Stay Motivated: "The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds."

I had a minor slump when I foolishly listened to someone who told me to focus on cardio and stop lifting for about a month.....pshaw, that's over now! Back to the plates and loving it! Still doing the cardio too.

then the shorter time frame is even better! i wish i had kept track of things like that, but it was always "well i'll do it tomorrow or the next day, etc.etc." until two years had passed and here i am with no progress pics. we'll see about nationals, i hope i do well!
