How I Started:
I was always fit, though I never put much effort into it. I've been a semi-vegetarian since 1989. I tried to live as holistically as practical through caring for my body more naturally than not and recognizing that food is not just for taste but also as the fuel my body burns and basic components it uses for rebuilding and repairing itself. I also cared for my mind and soul through meditation and constantly being open to new experiences and knowledge. This eventually led me to realize that my body could be better. Not just for appearances, though that's always a plus, but also for my continued good health. My biological father died at 52, after suffering through 3 bypass surgeries and 2 heart attacks, the second one finally ending his life. He was overweight and hypertensive. My adoptive father suffered a long-term, degenerative neurological disease and both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. Before being forced into retirement because of this, he led a wonderfully robust life. Afterwards, he fell into an unending depression made worse through his becoming an alcoholic. He also smoked, which led to the throat cancer and subsequent pneumonia that eventually ended his life. I saw how unhealthy living and denial of responsibility for how this had been the cause for both of their painful and early demises. I took these sad and unfortunate opportunities to make better choices in my life. Working out has helped me to achieve my goals.

Goals:
Main Goal:
Transform My Body
Goal (Overall):
My goal is to come back better than ever from an illness that prevented me from working out for almost 3 years!
Goal (Long):
Battling depression is a bleak and lonely process. But, it is one that CAN be accomplished! Over the past few years, I've dealt with some pretty tough life experiences. Without warning, I stumbled into a dark place, devoid of prospect, hope, happiness. I didn't even recognize that I HAD a problem until almost a full year had gone past! Once I started to come out of it, I began to see just how low I had gotten. It frightened me. During the course of the next 12-18 months, I had sought professional help, started eating better and, just recently, began going back to the gym. Wow! Within a week, my energy, stamina and outlook on life returned to where it was before! I will never again, doubt the power of good nutrition and a nice, hard workout! Mind over matter, life after death! I am going to not just get myself back to where I was before, but I will SURPASS my previous achievements! I will be better, stronger, faster than before! All of this, because I have been through my "dark night of the soul". I have faced down the demons. I have learned and grown from that experience and I will continue to learn and grow!
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 30 lb

Workout Program:
I'm following the basic "Body For Life" workout, right now. It works on how the muscles respond to stress (ie - lifting or cardio) and how you can maximized the effort by varying the weight and number of reps (or intensity level for cardio) for each muscle group. If you are interested in...
