I got tired of being fat and out of shape. I read Henry Rollins' "Iron and the Soul". I looked in the mirror and got depressed. Then I got mad. Then I got started.
Why I Love It:
I've tried a bunch of different "fitness" routines and diets, but nothing has motivated me like weightlifting. I think it's the ability to measure progress. 100 pounds this week turns into 105 or 110 next week. 30 minutes on a bike doesn't feel a lot different from 40, and it's boring as hell. But my weight plates sit there, all begging to be on the bar. How can I disappoint them?
How I Stay Motivated:
I go to buffet restaurants and watch the BLM's (bipedal land masses), and remember how I felt when I was one of them.
BB Accomplishments:
None yet. I'm working toward a number of goals, and am closing in on all of them.
This was not actually taken on 1/1/2007, but that's the shape I was in on that date. 240 pounds o' flabtastic bipedal land mass.
This is at the 5 month mark -- 1 month of heavy dieting, 1 month of screwing around with weights, 1 month on vacation to Australia, and 2 months of actual dedicated lifting.
Short term: get under 200 pounds, bench press my body weight, do 3x15 chin-ups.
Long term: Get into the 300 - 400 pound range on the weights, look into mentoring kids in my local area who need to build some self-confidence and self-respect, possibly go into personal training on the side.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 8 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
7%
