Background

When I Started: Jun 2009
HOW I STARTED:

I grew up as a minister's son on an island. We were poor and I wanted to start lifting weights. My dad found an old weight bench in the dump. He and I used steel wool to scrape off the rust. Then we spray-painted it black. I didn't have any real knowledge of lifting. I just asked my gym teacher to help me put together a lifting program. I started with that rusty weight bench and a set of concrete filled weights without any supplements and without a real diet (such as the Muscle and Fitness recommended six small meals a day diet). I remember at the time I was made fun of because I was the good, poor, quiet, skinny, smart kid with glasses and too many pimples. Since I have just started lifting again, I have felt better and my body has started looking better. I am inspired by you. Seeing what you are doing, looking at the pictures that show results, and keeping track of progress. I recently read a quote on a friend's bodyspace that I believe is a key to success, "The key to your motivation is to encourage others." So get out there and encourage that friend to do that last rep...help them if they need it...go beyond the gym and make a difference.

WHY I LOVE IT:

I love seeing results and transforming my body.

MonoDiablo Hey bro, plyometrics are GREAT to incorporate into your workout, no doubt. I am not doing the tough mudder is Ohio, it would be a bit a hike for me to get up there. It's a lot of fun!! Feb 11, 2012 8:56pm

thenaturalone Sounds like a plan! Oh his name is Rudy. He is a little tank. Him and I play tug of war, and that dude will not give up! Some of our tug of war matches last 30-45 minutes cause he is just as stubborn as I am! LOL! Feb 3, 2012 5:34pm

thenaturalone That's normal because in a neutral foot position you use more of the muscle in your outer thigh vs your inner thigh. Try altering your foot positioning so that your toes point more outward. This will help hit the inner thighs more. Feb 2, 2012 9:03am

thenaturalone Oh don't worry about those strips not turning purple. It doesn't mean that you're not burning fat, it just means that your body isn't producing as many ketone bodies. You don't have to be in ketosis to burn fat, I just find that I burn more body fat when I am in ketosis. It sounds like you're doing right brother. Slowly adding quality pounds of muscle without the fat! Jan 28, 2012 3:46pm

ChrisMTL Hey Buddy, Don't know anything about this belt. In fact, I do not wear a weight belt. Always believed it would weaken my lower back in the long term. Best, Chris Dec 12, 2011 8:25am
10pack
10pack I would not wear one. I never wear a belt at all. I think not wearing one makes my body stronger, and as long as you keep proper form you will not get hurt. I have been working out 8 years and have never had any type of back problem. Dec 11, 2011 7:49pm
MonoDiablo
MonoDiablo Hey Jason, no I actually have never experimented with that. I personally do not use a weight belt either. In order for maximal fat loss, blood circulation is needed to that area. The pressure of the belt could increase the blood flow, therefor increasing lipid oxidation. Worth a shot. I remember a friend of mine trying this a while back and he seems to like it.
