When I Started:
Feb, 2008
How I Started:
I was always the "big boned husky kid" growing up. I had asthma real bad. I ate McDonalds fries pretty much every day. Then one day someone at school asked to see my muscle joking around. I had tried but nothing happened whatsoever. Thats when I wanted to start working out. I have always watched WWE since I can remember growing up and I remember their strength and athleticism and overall conditioning and I wanted that. There has been so many inspirations there. I then got into pretty good shape. I was getting there. People would ask me what I did and how I did it. I was always at teh gym. Then the summer that I graduated from high school I stopped and then long story short life stresses built up. Parents on life sukpport, getting strokes, brain hemmoraghes, cancer. So from age 19-24 to 25 I became overly anxious and drank all the time. I wanted to stop but my body didn't. I finally stopped with the grace of God and am actually eating healthier and am in better shape then I think that I have ever been. I even quit smoking. It doesn't mean that I don't have room for improvement. I wanted to get back into shape. I gained over 40 pounds. I looked absolutely horrible. I felt horrible. It was progress over time. Back and forth and in and out of consistency with working out. But with alot of prayer and faith God has been there every step of the way in my quest for a healthier lifestyle.
Why I Love It:
It is a great stress reliever. It clears my mind and it is my form of meditation. It gives me goals and challenges. There are limitless workout combinations and eating habits one can take on. It gives you discipline and promotes well being(if done properly) and can provide others with inspiration to get into their best shape. I also love Muay Thai.
How I Stay Motivated:
Looking in the mirror everyday and seeing my progress, no matter how small, envisioning what I want my physique to look like. God helps me stay motivated. And my daughter. I want her to see how being active and healthy are important and how you can overcome obstacles.
BB Accomplishments:
Dropping 40 pounds! Now I need to define and build more lean mass. I don't think I really have any accomplishments that are worth noting. I haven't done any contests or anythign like that. I would rather get into the best shape and conditioning that I possibly can and to motivate others to do the same for themselves. That would be one of the biggest accomplishments I could do in this activity/lifestyle. Its a lifelong commitment not a once a week thing.

How has bodybuilding and fitness helped and/or changed your family life?
Friends and friends family and family. People see results and ask questions. Health knowledge, and I mean proper knowledge of exercise and diet should be for oneself as well as for others. It shouldn't be kept to yourself. It should be shared. So if you have knowledge and someone wants to better themself and wants to open up to you and ask what they can do to better their lives and better their relationships with their families and friends then you should feel priviledged and thankful that you had the opportunity to help someone potentially better their life. So if someone asks you at least take a few moments out of your day to at least point them in the right direction. Friends and friends family and family. People see results and ask questions. Are you a parent?
Yes
How has bodybuilding and fitness helped you to be a better parent?
Some people grow up seeing drinking and smoking and see what it does to you and stay away from it. Some people grow up seeing it and think its ok. I feel that if fitness is introduced from a young age then maybe that will give kids another option to what can be cool. Maybe they will never see it. Or maybe not realize it until they are older but if it is put on the table the more positive options given the better.
