When I Started:
Apr, 2001
How I Started:
I was over thirty, newly single, and 190lbs. I realized that I had two choices, keep getting fatter and lonelier, or get fit and have some control over my life. I hired a trainer and not only lost the weight, discovered I loved lifting weights! The more muscle I gained, the more people at the gym and my boyfriend began egging me on to compete. I placed third in my first competition at age 41.
Why I Love It:
There's nothing quite so satisfying as lifting a weight you never would have thought you could lift. It makes me feel powerful and in control. Once I'm in the zone all the troubles and stress of life disapear. Plus, its a real ego boost when the big guys at the gym freak out over a woman lifting heavy weight. I knew I'd "arrived" when they started asking me for a spot!
How I Stay Motivated:
Competing is a big motivator, and so is wearing chic clothes in a size 6 or 8! Before I started working out I was up to a size 16 -- and that was starting to get tight. The biggest motivator, though, is the look in my guy's eyes when he sees me.
BB Accomplishments:
Taking a third place in my first competition,a second and a third in past November 2007, and first and a third in April 2008. Also, pressing 135lbs barbell chest press -- personal best so far!
Since November I've been on the Kelly Bagget bulking program (the book's title is "How to gain slabs of lean muscle without turning into a tub of lard in the process" I kid you not!). The basic premise is a 14 day cycle with 11 days of eating and training for bulking followed by 3...
You look awesome... no way that could have been your before photo! You are a great role model for women over 30 who find themselves overweight & unfit without hope of changing themselves for the better. You have done a wonderful job of creating a new & better you! :-)
Good luck in TO! Shout out from an old CKCO alumni (back in the red jacket days). PS you can press as much as me with DB's! (Guess i best up the weights...) Best Rob
is that what you compete in? i havent really met very many girls who actually do bodybuilding.. just guess i dont really know how big of a difference it is from figure.
Fantastic transformation! Also great to hear another success story close to home! Keep up the great work and much success in your upcoming competitions! :)
Great transformation Lorna, you should be very proud of yourself. It is a great undertaking going from where you were to where you are. Congratulations!
