When I Started:
May, 2005
How I Started:
I took a weightlifting class during my junior year of high school, thinking it would be a great way to hang with guys. I was surprised to find I was more interested in hitting the weights than hitting on guys, so much that I continued to lift on my own after the class was over- I was completely hooked!
Why I Love It:
I love working out, I always feel good after going to the gym. Lifting weights has totally reshaped and transformed my body. I love how my body looks now, it's almost unrecognizable from when I started- I'm in the absolute best shape I've ever been and it shows. I've also seen significant improvement in my physical conditioning, now I sometimes get mistaken for an actual athlete ;). And now when I play sports, I feel like I have a chance to actually win, even against the boys!
How I Stay Motivated:
I like knowing that I'm doing something good for myself by staying in shape and getting stronger instead of getting the dreaded freshman 15. And I've noticed I'm getting more attention when I'm at the pool, that's motivating because I never thought that could happen to me.
BB Accomplishments:
I opened a jar for my roommate once, she was impressed.

What do you do before your workout to get motivated and energized?
I review my training log before I workout and visualize what I want to accomplish during this workout. I still have training logs from when I first started lifting, I can't believe how much stronger I've gotten! I keep pictures of the fitness stars to remind me that I can achieve similar results if I'm willing and dedicated enough to put in the time. What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
I like to use the elliptical because it's easier on my joints but sometimes I use the stairmaster because I like the burn in my glutes. Lately I've also been incorporating sprinting and running bleachers.I like to use the elliptical because it's easier on my joints but sometimes I use the stairmaster because I like the burn in my glutes. What is your cardio exercise plan?
I always do a warm-up and a cool down + a stretch. I vary the intensity, duration and incline.
I'm baaack! So, anyone miss me? I doubt it but that's ok. I'm sooo glad I took last month off but I'm all recuperated now so it's time to get back to it. I'm looking forward to lifting again, and lifting heavy, I'm planning to work all summer to achieve those those strength gains...
Being a student makes life pretty hectic but I find time to lift weights 5 times a week. This year I'm challenging myself to lift heavy (80-90% of 1RM) and to really work to failure so I can really develop my strength. I do 4 cardio sessions a week, two 25 min sessions at high intensity on...
invented by boys, perfected by women... in all these years ive been lifting ive never thought about it like that. Who wouldn't like a woman with muscle...im no hater....BTW i wouldn't hit on u in the gym, id wait til you were done

I'm trying build functional strength too. Tonight I'm looking at people with the same goal and asking them what tests they're using to assess their functional strength. What are you using?
