I was overweight and hated how I looked. What I wanted to look and feel like clearly was not reflected in the mirror. After quitting my job and going back to school, I decided that my health and appearance needed some work too, so my husband and I got a membership to a gym and we bagan to work out. I watched a fitness competition on television while doing my cardio and thought that might be fun and challenging, but I was also really intimidated because I had no gymnastics background and was not a great dancer. I found a trainer here in Denver that helped me with my nutrition and helped me put together a routine. I really enjoyed learning the strength moves and challenging my self! Now I regularly go to gymnastics taught by my very best friend, Susan Benz (she is Ms Fitness USA 2009) and I have so much fun learning how to do things I never ever thought I would ever do, like walk on my hands...
Why I Love It:
I like the challenge it presents to me everytime I go to the gym. I love how I feel and look after my workouts and enjoy seeing progress from week to week!
How I Stay Motivated:
I have photos of various figure/fitness competitors cut out and pasted to the walls of my work out room. I also have written down my goals and read them often. Also, probably the biggest help is talking to my friend Susan, who also competes. It is always nice to talk to someone who has felt what you are feeling...
BB Accomplishments:
I am the Mile High Natural 2009 Fitness Champ and Ms Fitness Mile High 2008 1st runner up (this was my very first fitness show), and I competed at Ms Fitness USA 2009 in Vegas! I am in Oxygen Magazine's "Future of Fitness" column in August 2009, Ms May in the Fit For Life Motivational Fitness Calendar.
So the last thing I want to do is balloon up this holliday season and undo alot of the work I just did. The temptation to eat foods that were off limits is now harder and harder to resist and I dont want to find myself eating everthing I couldn't have every day all day. Gotta find some...
Oh, I hear that. This is your best time to grow though after being dieted down. You can really put on some great lean muscle! Lots of lean red meat and weights for you! Most evenings are good for me. I'll bring the Mrs, too. She was in the pigtails back stage expediting the Rocky with Renee
That would be cool. What kind of food do you like, now that you're post-show and can eat "normal" again?
Literally, you've been standing right next to me usually asking a question to one of the other staff, but I know the last thing any depleted frenzied competitor needs is another distraction!
Every show you're always the most energetic person around before you compete! You're always on a mission, too. One of these days I'll actually get to say hi to you as you're running by me!
Thanks for asking. Things are going fairly well. Dropped off the eating wagon for about 4 months. Catching back up now. Life just sort of gets in the way at times. What keeps you motivated? Is the youngster in one of the pics your daughter?
Awww, well just think of it as stepping up and helping him out! I don't think I've ever been to an NPC show here where at least one person's music didn't have issues. Too many people burn on CDR-W discs.
