Background

When I Started: Mar 2008
HOW I STARTED:

I never played sports in High School, but I'd wanted to get big for years, and I could never get up the courage to step into the gym with guys who'd been working out for any length of time. That day finally came during College and, two years later, I'm that guy people look up to.

WHY I LOVE IT:

Not once since I started lifting have I felt sad or depressed like I had in High School. This is the one hobby I have that I push myself to improve on and it manifests itself in ways both mental and physical.

Chinese Fortune Cookie

So I ate Chinese food for the first time in months last night. I opened my fortune cookie to find the fortune, "Your talents will be recognized and suitably rewarded." I feel like I have to compete now. Having hit 170 already with 3 months to go and becoming confident in the mirror, I'm coming several steps closer to fully committing myself to comp. The number of people behind me on this decision keeps growing. So I have a following... I think I can comfortably step on stage, regardless of how I think I (might not) stack up against the competition.

Awkward Encounters and Competitions

'Had an awkward moment at the Cincinnati WEBN fireworks Saturday night. I was walking down the path behind Serpentine Wall and, out of nowhere, one girl in a group of three bolted at me screaming, "Hey, muscles!" and proceeded to squeeze my bicep with both hands for a split second before running away. Sadly, I think she would've been too young anyway. Haha! My buddy said I was red in the face, and of course I would be: that's never really happened to me, and how are you supposed to react to something like that? Thinking of Competing Next Year

Seeing as my weight gain goals seem well within reach (165 by late August and I've already gained 5 lbs in less than a month), I've almost convinced myself that I might compete next Spring. If I weigh 180-190 by February/March with enough mass/strength to go around, I'll cut down to around 170 for it. It's weird thinking that I used to want to keep my weight down below 130, and not 2 years later want to push the threshold higher than ever. I'm glad my efforts are finally paying off, though. I never thought I'd see the day I would even consider getting on stage in front of people while minimall...
