Overall Goal: I want to look like my avatar again, but with about 10-15 lbs more muscle. Currently trying to work as hard as I can and see where I get with that.

When I Started:
Mar, 2006
How I Started:
Back in 2003 I hit about 150 lbs; out of shape with very little muscle, as I had never weight trained before. I realized I was starting to look flubby, and that I was living an unhealthy lifestyle. I started doing cardio (outside or on my parents tredmill), crunches, and push-ups first; I also cut out soda and eating crap all the time. I did this for a good while, and I joined the gym for the 1st time in my life about 8-9 months before I got married Oct. 2004. Unfortuanately I broke my ulna 3 months before my wedding, so I shrunk down from a healthy 135 lbs to 128 lbs. Once my arm was ready I was back to lifting very light, b/c I fell victim to the myth of lifting light will get ya ripped! Hahaha, funny, eh? I stayed at around 130 lbs until finally after some research I realized if I wanted to look the way I wanted I needed to start really training and eating optimally! Going to the gym 3x a week for 30-45 min, and barely breaking a sweat wasn't gonna do the trick. March 1, 2006 was when I decided I would seriously start to change my body and reach my goals. This is when I actually applied myself to my diet and pushed myself in the gym. March 2006 was truly when I started bodybuilding or lifting weights with the intentions of gaining muscle.
Why I Love It:
God has given me my body as a gift, and it is for His glory and honor that I take care of my body. I do love the feeling I get after I complete an intense workout... I feel like I've done something good for my health and the physical appearance of my body as well.
How I Stay Motivated:
I like having my wife think I look good... although I gotta be careful... she says if I get too big she won't be attracted to me :) I really love training now. What started out as a chore has become something I enjoy and look forward to everyday. It's part of my life.

March 1, 2006... 130 lbs - This is when I decided I was gonna try to change my body. With the 3 skin fold caliper test I was 7.9% here, hahaha... way too low! According to the Navy body fat method I was 14% bf... sounds about right.
164.2 lbs in the morning. 13.4% bf w/ Omron on this day (164.6 lbs on avg / 13.8% bf on avg for the week so far). That's a 1.1 lbs gain in weight with no increase in body fat since 11/20/2009. I seem to be maintaining my %bf while gaining weight. Still making good strength gains too. All fine by me! ...

Goal (Long):
My long term goal is to be around 7-8% body fat and be as muscularly developed as my body can naturally be, and, of course, be healthy. I plan on being a personal trainer / dietician, so I should have the type of body that reflects what I plan on teaching others. God has blessed me with a body, so it is my duty to be a good steward of what He has given me. I also intend on helping my wife and son/children in their journeys of being fit and healthy.
Now, this is somewhat of an experiment... I did this calculator that has "some" research behind it, and it gave me my Estimated NATURAL Max-Muscular Potential weight at ~8-10% bf and the following measurements based off of my 6.75" wrist, 8.5" ankle, and ht of 66":
Weight: 178 lbs ~10% body fat
Chest: 44.9 in, Biceps: 16.3 in,
Forearms: 13 in, Neck: 15.9 in,
Thighs: 23.7 in, Calves: 15.9 in.
So, this is my LONG TERM Goal now above. I am currently ~28 lbs away from this goal! I will likely never fully reach these measurements or it will definitely take anywhere from 5 - 10 yrs from now (Aug. 2009). I may update every year. Also, I think it will be cool to have this here for if/when I ever do come close to/meet/exceed these above measurements.
Another natural bodybuilder who is willing to help others who are less knowledgeable/experienced as him out - especially when they are in need of making last minute preparations for their 1st show :p
Dude, knows his stuff. It's evident by looking at his physique.
What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
I didn't lift heavy enough. I didn't push myself at all. i started going to the gym to get lean. I believed the myth that I'd get "bulky", so I didn't lift heavy at all. I did high reps and barely pushed myself with that. I eventually learned how to train properly and also got the desire to get bigger :)I didn't lift heavy enough. What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Learn proper form and control. Then push yourself with every rep and every set. Eat right and be consistant with diet and training. Enjoy life along the way too ;) Your health and appearance will benefit from your hard work :)Learn proper form and control. Then push yourself with every rep and every set. I wish so bad I had read this back in the Fall of 2006 when I started out on my bulking phases that ended up with me at 180 lbs ~20% bf in January 2008. I would have never made such an awful mistake as that. I probably...
Christmas is so exciting for little kids! Some boy told my neice that santa wasnt real...I wanted to kill him! My bro talked her back into it again though :)
YAY for you!!! Xmas eve, we celebrate with Chris' dads side of the fam...Xmas day is with my fam and I'm still not sure when we are getting together with Chris's mom...luckily we dont have to travel, everyone is local :) What are you guys doing?? Is Isaac old enough to get excited yet?
Being able to have a diet that allows me to enjoy in moderation would be wonderful, I hope to get there someday :) WOO HOO!!! How long are you on break from school?? What cert...PT??
I do a carb cycle-ish diet...higher on leg days, moderate on other training days and low on rest days. My problem is that I cant have 'relaxed/loose' days...I go way overboard when I do. Oh if I can just make it out of December alive ;-) LOL!
Hey bro, good to hear you are on a row! Keep hauling ass! I am sure you can manage to cut without putting much muscle at risk. Keep head up? Please, I have lost the battle!
LMAO! Lucky you :P I'm feeling better today...and I didnt give in to any of the junk at work!! Congrats on the squats...you have some teardrops in no time =D
Im doing pretty good man, glad to hear that all is going well for you. Christmas is always a busy time of year, lots of things going on, but its going great. Training is well. I think I am starting to see some gains and progress on my end too, FINALLY!
