What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Having a personal trainer that was very inattentive.
Using machines only.
Too many sets and reps, being afraid to go up in weight.
Doing cardio when angry.
Training too often.
Not eating enough, or on some days, eating too much before hitting the gym.
Bad form on some freeweight exercises.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Do your research on proper exercises and how your body should realistically move. I have no use for a Swiss ball or ridiculous combinations of hopping squats on a BOSU ball. If it sounds crazy to you, tell your under informed "trainer" that you won't compromise your safety! Nobody is going to force you to herniate a disc but YOU.
