So here I am, 6 weeks away from one of two marathons to qualify for Boston. My knee is finally feeling great. I'm running strong, sticking to my cross-training workouts. I'm running faster than I have before and I have a real shot at qualifying, then.......bam! Out on a 16 mile cruising run and feel the twinge in my left achilles. So I slow down, take a drink of water, say to my self "it's ok, it's just fatigue not tendinitis like last year. Just cut your run short and go do some major stretching." So, I was feeling a little bummed out because I didn't reach a lot of my goals this year. I had wanted to place in some marathons but ended up getting Achilles tendinitis. Then I thought, ok, no problem just try for the fall races. Well that didn't work out because now I have ITBS (iliotibial band syndrome). It's a common overuse injury but a killer for distance runners as it takes forever to heal. So needless to say, I was in the need for some inspiration to keep going. Well I didn't have to look far. I'm surrounded by it at work. I've got 5 co-workers currently training for the Ironman 70.3...

So my husband and I were running in the hills the other day when we ran across someone walking and smoking a cigarette. This person, looking all haggered and tired, got me thinking about having pride in your company and what it can do for the community. In the past, with the baby boomers, it was all about the job & title. Good wages, long term employment, and a good retirement were all people looked for and wanted. Things are different now with the gen X, gen Y, & nexters. Oh sure, we still want good pay and good jobs, but more than that we want to believe we are doing something specia...
