How I Started:
I have worked out on and off over the years. My husband has always been a good example. I enjoy weight lifting and aerobics, but have always been overweight, starting in childhood. I'm also rather accident prone! I've been in lots of car accidents (only one was my fault!), horseback riding accidents, and a ladder accident, that have left me in a lot of pain. I used it as an excuse to not exercise, but that made things worse. Getting moving again hurt a lot at first, but got easier. I still have to be careful. I was always very strong as a young person because I worked with horses, so it was very hard to lift "wimpy" weights, but I've learned to go gradually, and it's coming back. In January 2007 I weighed as much as I did when I was overweight and 9 months pregnant. That shocked me into getting serious. I lost a significant amount of weight from then until September of '07, but I've been stuck there ever since. I'm ready to get back on the ball and lose the rest of my weight and get my body into the shape I've always wanted. I'm here for encouragement and accountability. I'll post pictures (that's scary!) of my progress from now 'til I reach my goal.
Why I Love It:
I feel good knowing I'm doing something so good for my body! When I work out, the weight comes off so much easier. And now, since I've been working out consistently for quite a while, my pain level is SO much lower. I have days where I feel no pain. It's been years since I've felt that good!!!
How I Stay Motivated:
My family and friends are great encouragers. If I've been sliding, I look for another short-term goal with a reward or consequence to perk me up. But since I've been doing the Body for Life, it's become a habit, something I do everyday. Remembering how much pain I was in when I wasn't moving enough and eating badly keeps me going, too. And, of course, buying new clothes for my thinner body is very motivating!
BB Accomplishments:
Just sticking with it, not giving up!!!

This was taken just after I realized I really needed to do something about my weight. I had already lost 5 pounds.
I need to lose at least 20 more pounds and I want to be able to see muscles in my abs.
Goal (Long):
I have always been overweight, sometimes as little as 15 pounds, but usually more. I lost a significant amount of weight last year and I would love to finish my weight loss so I can see my muscles, especially in my abs. I need to lose 20 to 25 pounds. I would love to look like the women who compete in the figure competitions. I'm actually thinking about entering a figure competition next year! We'll see.
What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
I have a tendency to try to lift too much, especially since I used to be so strong. But I have learned to lift less and really pay attention to my form.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Start with someone watching your form who really knows their stuff, not the guy in the gym who is always giving advice and doesn't have a clue. Hire a trainer to get you started if you need to.
It's been over a month since I've posted a blog. I think I was overtraining and needed a break - so I took one. I have been working out really hard since April. Then I took two weeks and worked out very lightly (but that's more than a lot of people do!) and was just starting a medium...
Hey! Glad that you stopped by! Thanks for the comps. Very much appreciated!
You are doin an awesome job there yourself! Keep up the great work and have a nice holiday!
Hi there! I've been overseas for a mo. & haven't been staying on plan. luckily i haven't gained & i've switched to a low carb diet. congrats on your progress. it really shows!
Gotcha. Being a massage therapist I go off where someone's anatomical hips actually are and of course that can vary from person to person. Either way though, you've still made great progress. The stubborn areas are usually the last to go and more hormone influenced. Keep at it though and it'll happen!
Hey! Yes I'm competing in the Oregon as a warm up to Masters Nationals! Would love to have you there to cheer me on! You can go to www.oregonbodybuilding.com for info and tickets. ed aka Ol Supe
My week has been ok, I had a slip up yesterday and ate a bunch of junk but I'm gonna hit the gym hard today to try and make up for it, it just sucks it was right before my weigh in day.
It was my pleasure to drop by and leave you a few words of encouragement. I enjoy watching people achieve their fitness goals and dreams and I especially enjoy it if I can assist in any way.
I wish you all the best and look forward to watching your progress.
Well congratulations on your journey! Stick to your plan. You have a good frame so you are already ahead of the game. Keep me informed of your progress! I love to people succeed!
