When I Started:
Mar, 2007
How I Started:
I have worked out on and off over the years. My husband has always been a good example. I enjoy weight lifting and aerobics, but have always been overweight, starting in childhood. I'm also rather accident prone! I've been in lots of car accidents (only one was my fault!), horseback riding accidents, and a ladder accident, that have left me in a lot of pain. I used it as an excuse to not exercise, but that made things worse. Getting moving again hurt a lot at first, but got easier. I still have to be careful. I was always very strong as a young person because I worked with horses, so it was very hard to lift "wimpy" weights, but I've learned to go gradually, and it's coming back. In January 2007 I weighed as much as I did when I was overweight and 9 months pregnant. That shocked me into getting serious. I lost a significant amount of weight from then until September of '07, but I've been stuck there ever since. I'm ready to get back on the ball and lose the rest of my weight and get my body into the shape I've always wanted. I'm here for encouragement and accountability. I'll post pictures (that's scary!) of my progress from now 'til I reach my goal.
Why I Love It:
I feel good knowing I'm doing something so good for my body! When I work out, the weight comes off so much easier. And now, since I've been working out consistently for quite a while, my pain level is SO much lower. I have days where I feel no pain. It's been years since I've felt that good!!!
How I Stay Motivated:
My family and friends are great encouragers. If I've been sliding, I look for another short-term goal with a reward or consequence to perk me up. Remembering how much pain I was in when I wasn't moving enough and eating badly keeps me going, too. And, of course, buying new clothes for my thinner body is very motivating!
BB Accomplishments:
Just sticking with it, not giving up!!!

singer1961updated Fit Status "Lifting weights again, my body seems to be handling it - yeah!"
This was taken just after I realized I really needed to do something about my weight. I had already lost 5 pounds.
I hope this looks thinner than the Sept 07 picture. I've been working hard on cardio and weights and pretty good on diet, but the scale has hardly budged. I hope the work is beginning to show.
25th anniversary trip to Hawaii in February! Gotta get ready!
Goal (Long):
I have always been overweight, sometimes as little as 15 pounds, but usually more. I lost a significant amount of weight in 2007 and I would love to finish my weight loss so I can see my muscles, especially in my abs. I need to lose 25 to 30 pounds. I would love to look like the women who compete in the figure competitions.
Our 25th anniversary is in February 2010 and we want to go to Hawaii - and have bikini bodies!
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 35 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
15%

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
I have a tendency to try to lift too much, especially since I used to be so strong. But I have learned to lift less and really pay attention to my form.

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Start with someone watching your form who really knows their stuff, not the guy in the gym who is always giving advice and doesn't have a clue. Hire a trainer to get you started if you need to.
Started back on an exercise program. I'm just lifting twice a week to give my body a long recovery time. I think right now I need it. I'm only doing upper body weights and then adding more intense cardio the rest of the week. Nothing real ambitious yet.
Hey Singer! Havent heard from you in a while and I am checking up on you!
Hope that your workouts are coming along well and that you are staying strong and focused! All the best!
Congrats on the CD and the 25th anniversary. I'm still overseas (project keeps getting extended). Fitness has taken a step backwards, but I am getting back into the swing of things. Just started learning salsa. It is both fun and a good workout.
Hey! glad to hear from you! congrats on the biggest loser contest! I just knew that you would do great! Did you sing a victory song out loud and proud for everyone afterwards? LOL
Glad to see that you are back. Don't worry about the few extra pounds. It's the end result that matters. All is well here. I'm battling the bad eating habits as well.
Hey! Glad that you stopped by! Thanks for the comps. Very much appreciated!
You are doin an awesome job there yourself! Keep up the great work and have a nice holiday!
