How I Started:
I think I have loved sport since the day I was born... I learned how to swim before I could even talk - my parents were into their water sports like diving and waterskiing, so they felt it was an important skill for me to learn... especially when you live in a small country surrounded by water!!
When I was at school I tried out for every sports team that I could - gymnastics, aerobics, triathlon, cross-country, netball... you name it!
From age 8 to 14 I did competitive swimming. We trained anywhere from 7 to 11 times a week. I ended up with tendonitis of the rotator cuff from over-training and had rehabilitation on it for 2 years but it never came fully right - so I looked to take up another sport.
I then got into competitive rowing at high school and surf boat rowing after I left school. Surf boat rowing is an amazing sport and I hope to compete in it again.
I discovered the sport of bodybuilding while I was on a University exchange to UCLA. I thought "this sport sounds perfect for me!!" I can't wait to compete someday!
Why I Love It:
It puts me in a good mental space & it makes me feel great inside and out :)
How I Stay Motivated:
I know if I don't work out and eat well I will feel terrible and not being making the most of life!
I want to prove to myself and others that I have the strength, determination, commitment and discipline to construct a healthy, athletic, lean and beautiful body worthy of competing.
Also by looking up to successful fitness models - if they can do it, so can I :)
Recording my food and exercise daily and taking measurements & progress photos weekly is a great motivator to eat well 24/7 and make improvements.
Another method that I have recently come up with is to take away something that I enjoy until I reach my goal - I have chosen not to purchase any new clothes, shoes or accessories up until I reach my goal!! This way I'll want to reach it faster :)
