How I Started: Three friends influenced me. When I was about 50 pounds overweight, one friend was successful on a low carb diet, another was steadfastly plugging away at a healthy lifestyle, and the third was overweight like me - and ready to do something about it. We started working out together and lost about 100 pounds between us in eleven months' time.
Why I Love It: I love the feel of muscles under the skin. Also the natural high from a great workout relieves all the stress.
How I Stay Motivated: I want to stay healthy and active through every stage of my life.

911 Fitness Challenge Begins Fitness Challeng Weigh Out - dropped 42 lbs
We weighed in at 975 pounds. I'm going to post our aggregate body measurements into my body blog every four weeks - starting this week. Our total body fat reduction goal will follow.  Started the fitness challenge with 5 team members but ended up with 4 and one of those said no way to a photo. The 3 of us lost a total of 17.5% bodyfat and 42 pounds. We're making plans to get serious for next year.

What do you do before your workout to get motivated and energized?
I have a whey protein drink and listen to the news on the radio while driving to the gym. Not much motivation but I enjoy the clear roads (no traffic at 0515 hrs).

I usually drink a zip fizz during the workout.

A distant goal is necessary - but it is also important to focus on one day at a time. It's too easy to get discouraged otherwise.
