How I Started:
I've always been interested in exercise, but didn't used to know what I was doing all that much. I knew lifting weights was good, but I mostly used to try to run myself skinny until I could hardly stand up (and I was already skinny back then.)
My BF (AKR here) got me started on bb.com, and helped me learn the basics.
I ran into a giant brick wall a couple of years ago with my physical and psychological health, and I was really slow at dragging my ass out of that. It's going better now, though. I've lost the weight I'd gained and then some.
I've recently become vegan, and it's one of the best choices I've made in my life - if not THE best one. I have no trouble finding plenty of food with plenty of protein, and I just feel GOOD.
Why I Love It:
It keeps me mentally healthy as well as physically healthy. It helps my self esteem, not just from helping me look better, but by getting all the right chemicals going in my brain.
How I Stay Motivated:
I try to keep my mind on my long-term goals moreso than the short-term ones. I try to eat and live well overall - including vitamins - to keep my mind in the right place and to give me energy.

Goal (Long):
I want to lose weight overall and gain muscle. I'd like to be around 135 with a decent amount of muscle - maybe a little lighter. I think my ideal end goal measurement-wise is around 36x26x38 (plenty of squats! ;-)) I was thinking 24" waist, but I'm not sure that that is realistic for me... I want muscle there, not just an absence of fat, and I don't think I could have much there if I lost almost another half a foot off of it... and then there's my rib cage. Not so small.
Damn, life dealt you a sh!tty hand, but I can tell you are doing your best to make the most of it. I really believe you can reach your goals - good luck!
The main fat I need to lose is still the pooch under my belly button (also in the same spot on my back.) I have fat on my thighs that needs to go as well, but this is really the main place I need to lose actual inches. Everything else is getting there... still hoping to lose a couple of inches...
No matter what anyone else says, you have definitely made very credible improvements. You reached your goals, crushed them and kept on going. Although I will have to admit, I have never in my life tried to mix vitamins, protein powder and oatmeal all in one shot. And now I know why. Stay strong and focused!
