Background

When I Started: Jun 2002
HOW I STARTED:

I bought my first body building magazine in 2002. I was hooked from then on. In May of 2005, I bought Anthony Ellis's program "Gaining Mass". Using the diet and exercise techniques outlined in the program, I managed to gain about 25 pounds. After I learned the basics, I used my own diet and routine to get up to 165 pounds before cutting down for a contest. Since Beginning bodybuilding, I've gained over 50 pounds of muscle. I've also added nearly 200 pounds to my max bench, 250 to my max squat, and I'm currently near a triple bodyweight deadlift.

WHY I LOVE IT:

It gives me a great outlet for all of the frustration and anger that comes from living everyday life. I like to think of bodybuilding as my "anti drug" because it mostly kept me out of trouble during high school. Also, unlike singing, dancing, or playing sports, people can tell just by looking at you that you work out. You probably wouldn't be able to pick the best golfer out of a line of people, but you can certainly pick out the bodybuilder! Being strong helps in a lot of areas outside of bodybuilding and powerlifting too. Bodybuilding has influenced the path I've chosen for myself in life. Because of my interest in the human machine, I'm now pursuing a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Goals

I've ben rethinking my goals lately and I am thinking that It may be a better idea for me to try to overshoot my goal weight (170 instead of 160) and then try cutting until I am satisfied with my bodyfat percentage. I don't think I have EVER been over 11% before so it may be a new experience for me to be carrying extra fat around. On the other hand, I may not gain much fat at all since I've never been the kind of person that gains fat easily. Only time will tell how it goes but as long as I am seeing results like I have been lately, I won't be easily discouraged.

It's that time again. Time for me to piece together a diet that I can actually maintain. I want to put on some more size and hopefully inch closer to my ultimate goal of 160 pounds at less than 10% body fat. My strength has been steadily going up since I started 5x5s so I'm interested in seeing what happens when I start using a stricter diet. The wrestling season is ending soon so I should be getting my two workout partners going back to the gym with me. Finally I won't be having to ask random people for a spot. I don't know If I really trust the spotting skills of everyone at my gym. Anyway,...
